College Considerations

It’s never too early for your child to start thinking about college. Consider these three things first:

  • Type of School: Vocational-technical schools, community colleges, colleges, and universities all offer unique benefits.

  • Two-Year or Four-Year: If the job your child wants requires an associate’s degree, then they may want to attend a two-year community college. However, many careers require a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.

  • Private vs. Public: Privately funded schools are often smaller, which can allow students more access to faculty members and better chances of getting into programs and classes. Publicly funded schools are usually larger and offer a wider range of degree options. Both kinds of colleges strive to work with students to help them achieve their goals. Look for a school that feels comfortable to your child while offering programs that fit both their academic and extracurricular needs.
